Sydney, got spooked while away visiting family and jumped out of her owners arms.
Monday night I began working with the family. I set up a trap and within hours she was circling it and would step in and then hop out, at one point she banged the door and prematurely tripped the trap which sent her fleeing the area, my heart sank. A large enclosure was set up first thing the next morning with the door tied open and stocked with food, ready for her return but she had other ideas.
Days went by with no sightings and concern set in as these woods are infested with packs of coyote, I listened to their chorus night after night.
Over a thousand posters were hung near and far and we began reaching out to hunters to be on the look out and check their trail cameras. Sure enough, within hours we learned she had been spotted a couple days prior deep in the woods eating bait left for deer and she wasn’t that far away but now on the other side of Pequest.
Just as we were headed over to break down and move the enclosure, my camera went off and sure enough, Sydney had found her way back… almost as if to say “wait I’m still here”.
The enclosure was baited and set for capture but she was still quite leery and was hesitant to go all the way to the back. I made the decision to tie it open again and condition her and get her comfortable going in and out and all the way to the back. I simply couldn’t risk her beating that door…she was very fast!
Once Sydney was going in and out of the enclosure as if she owned the joint, I set it for capture. Within three hours she was back and walked right in and that door slammed closed behind her.
After 6 days and nights on the run, Sydney is finally home safe and sound. It was such a pleasure working with her family who I am now so pleased to call dear friends.
Welcome HME Sydney Louise!!
